Flipping through the script, freshman Jacob Atherley prepares to act in the first scene. He played the main character, Steven. “I’ve always liked playing a nice part,” Atherley said. “I thought it would be fun.”

Sitting at Spanish 2 teacher Kathryn Maus’s desk, junior Raquel Thompson reads over the script for her video. She volunteered to narrate the story, “El jabón Sexy Man.” “[The video] is unlike anything I’ve ever done in a foreign language class,” Thompson said. “[Maus] really went all in to it. She made sure we knew our lines, did a green screen and had a tripod for a camera. It makes it more fun and it makes you more engaged.”

Standing behind a television crafted from paper and a metal frame, sophomore Jordan Hunter watches the director set up the next scene. Hunter took the role after being encouraged by classmates.

Laying on a row of chairs, freshman Jacob Atherley smiles while he pretends to sleep. Students quickly crafted the makeshift bed minutes before the bell rang. “My Spanish I class was very laid back, and we didn’t do a whole lot,” Atherley said. “That’s why I don’t know too much Spanish right now, [but] the way Sra. Maus is teaching, it’s helping.”
