Spanish II Class Brings Story to Life
Looking for an alternative way to teach her classes daily routine vocabulary, Spanish 2 teacher Kathryn Maus set up a makeshift green screen and handed her students a script and an iPad. They had several days to plan and make props and had two days to film. Maus’s unique approach to teaching and enthusiasm about introducing new creative ways to approach the language has helped students learn vocabulary.
Sitting at Spanish 2 teacher Kathryn Maus’s desk, junior Raquel Thompson reads over the script for her video. She volunteered to narrate the story, “El jabón Sexy Man.” “[The video] is unlike anything I’ve ever done in a foreign language class,” Thompson said. “[Maus] really went all in to it. She made sure we knew our lines, did a green screen and had a tripod for a camera. It makes it more fun and it makes you more engaged.”
