Sanders felt the final battle felt rushed and less dramatic than expected after years of buildup. Sanders also wished some characters like Will had a much bigger role.
“It felt like he was sidelined, and I wanted him to really shine in the finale,” Sanders said.
Art teacher Mrs. Hinkson also shared conflicted feelings about the ending. She said she enjoyed the ending at first but felt differently after thinking about it more.

One of Hinkson’s favorite conspiracy theories is that parts of the ending were imagined by Mike as a way of coping.
“It’s sad, but it also makes the story more powerful, “Hinkson said, adding that sacrifice doesn’t always lead to a perfect ending.
Johnson said the finale could have had a stronger emotional impact with higher stakes.
“In my mind, I feel like if they had increased the tension and suspense with it, maybe a few death counts. It’d probably be better emotional impact, in my mind.” said Johnson.
Even so, Sanders admitted she would still recommend the show because of how much it means to her.
“But also, it’s my favorite show and it means like a lot to me. So I would probably still recommend it to people, even though I didn’t love the ending. So yeah.” said Sanders
