If you get stressed out during thunderstorms, these tips on how to relax and staying safe may help you.

  1. First off, find a safe spot. Whenever there is a storm, always find a secure room in your house to go into in case of severe weather. Rooms that do not have windows or an outside wall are the best.
  2. Make sure you own candles or flashlights and have them with you if the power goes out. This way, you don’t have to worry about finding them after the power goes out.
  3. Close your blinds. When you close your blinds or curtains, it does not let any light in your windows, such as lightning, so you can concentrate on other things rather than the storm.
  4. Change into comfy clothes, wrap yourself in blankets and read a book. Listening to the rainfall can be very calming and rather peaceful. Plus, getting snuggled up with a good book can pass the time quickly.
  5. Get some snacks and have a movie marathon. If you’re in a situation where you still have power, watch a movie! Time passes faster when you do so, and it distracts you from what is going on outside. But, make sure you keep up with what’s going on outside as well.
  6. Make some tea. For me, this always helps. I would recommend chamomile tea because it helps with both anxiety and stress.
  7. Play a game. Pokemon Go isn’t the game to play during a storm, but Monopoly or Scrabble are. Board games are fun and don’t require you to leave your house.
