Students volunteer at the Humane Society

bauxiteStudents who are planning to spend their spring break at home could participate in volunteering in the community. The Humane Society of Saline County is open Tuesday through Saturday.

Helping clean out dog and cat pens, preparing food for the animals, cleaning up and other activities are needed at the Humane Society. To volunteer, students would need to get a volunteer form at their office.

Freshman Kylie Collins plans to volunteer over the break.

“I am planning to head over there next week or this weekend to turn in my form,” Collins said. “All that was needed on the form was my name, why I would like to help out, my phone number and stuff like that.”

The Humane Society says they are always in need of paper towels, trash bags, rubbing alcohol, dish soap, office supplies and peroxide. Not only can you help out by volunteering, but by donating.

“Volunteering is also helpful because you can use it for when you go to college as volunteer hours. I really enjoy being around animals; I’m looking forward to it,” Collins said.
