The Nest is something that is accessible to all Bryant High School students and their families. It is there to help those less fortunate than others while giving them the support that they need, emotionally and physically.
Trish Humphry has overseen the management and ran the Nest since its beginning. Throughout the time that the Nest has existed, necessities like clothes and toiletries, and food have been donated.
“This would not happen without donations from senior week and that’s why it is so important and I am so grateful for the donations from senior week,” Humphry said, “So, that money funds everything for the nest.”
Senior Week is an activity that is used to bring in money donations for the Nest to fund if there’s an urgent need that isn’t being met solely from students’ donations.
She talks about how she uses that money to go out to our local stores to buy specific items to give to the nest to further help with the donation process.
“I can go to Walmart and make purchases for socks, underwear— particular needs for a family if something special comes up like that.”
The Nest is a place where people can go and get the help that they may need. It is also a place that has and will continue to bring the community closer together. It helps people understand the situation that their fellow classmates may be in.
“It is kids understanding that their fellow classmates and their families need help. Them raising money through senior week just keeps the circle of students helping students and teachers helping students.”
The Nest has also been donating prom dresses to students that aren’t able to go out and buy their own Giving away around 25 dresses per year.
“It’s like a boutique shopping experience,” Humphry said.
After dresses are donated, Humphry sends out a sign-up sheet for students to use in order to schedule a BuzzTime. After they get their assigned Buzz Time, they go to 17-31. When they get there they will be prompted to try on dresses. When they find their dress, they will go and ring a bell and say ‘Yes to the dress’.
”We need the word to spread because we’ve got lots of beautiful dresses that we would love to find a home for, so we need more to come.”
The main goal of the Nest is to support their community and ensure that the family that is Hornets are safe and comfortable.
“If you or someone you know needs anything; I am here. That’s why this is here.”
