At the Fairways at Hurricane Creek, senior Payne Roberts works as part of the cart staff. Since his sophomore year, he has been washing golf carts, picking up driving range balls and taking out the trash.
As a member of the Country Club since he was 9, he knew about the job and applied.
“Balancing school and work is much easier during the winter because it gets darker earlier, so there’s less to do,” Roberts said.
He sometimes gets away with doing his homework there when it’s not very busy.
Roberts said he loves the people he works with and he enjoys his job.
Working around four hours a day on weekdays and seven on weekends, Roberts earns minimum wage at $7.25 an hour. He normally works five days a week.
