After going through six weekends of training over a period of six months, sophomore Haley Shipe has begun auditioning for modeling competitions. Upon finishing her training last June, Shipe started receiving calls about shoots. She did a promotional event at McCain Mall in North Little Rock to recruit new models, the same way she was recruited.
“I used to do pageants a lot when I was little and I thought it was something I’d be interested in,” Shipe said.
So when she saw the models at the mall, she signed up.
“It’s cool,” Shipe said, “because you get to be around all the other people competing.” She said working with Barbizon, the company she models with, has been a positive experience. “One of my best friends, I met in training.”
Shipe auditioned for several competitions, one of which will take place on a cruise ship. On Feb. 5, she auditioned for a modeling camp in Dallas, Texas.
“[The audition] was pretty good,” Shipe said. “I got a call [Feb. 6] saying that I got selected to go to Dallas.”
After high school, Shipe hopes to become a director for Barbizon. Having been through the business herself, she plans on mentoring future models.
