Job of the week: Matt McCabe

Senior Matt McCabe CAITLIN GREEN PHOTO

by Jessica Mann. Senior Matt McCabe is a pool worker at Bishop Park. Working as part of the Aquatic Staff, he collaborates with his co-workers to take care of the whole facility. His brother began working at the center the day it opened, and Matt decided to get a job last year as a lifeguard. His boss recently told him about an opening for the Aquatic Staff and he applied.

Arriving at 5 p.m McCabe begins cleaning the handrails. After the swim team leaves, he cleans up, and then gets in the pool and scrubs the bottom. He also prepares the underwater vacuum. McCabe normally works the 5 p.m to 9 p.m shift.

At a pay of $9.08 an hour, he works around 12 hours a week and is paid every two weeks.

“It was tough managing everything during marching season. I was busy everyday. But my boss worked with my schedule,” McCabe said.
