    Top picks for Halloween thrills

If you’re looking for the best thrills on Halloween night, here are some of this season’s top picks.

    Torture Chamber

    Party Central, 3805 Benton Parkway

    Benton, Arkansas 72015

    501-315-8300

    Admission: $15 per person

    $20 for Speed Passes

The Torture Chamber in Benton was voted the number one haunted house in Arkansas for four years in a row. It will keep you on your feet or knees the whole time. In one portion of the course, you may have to crawl. If you plan on attending the Torture Chamber, be prepared to go all the way. They do not allow you to turn around once you enter, and no refunds are available. Sophomore Connor Chapdelaine attended the Torture Chamber.

“I thought it was a lot of fun. Definitely worth the 15 bucks it cost. It’s a good place to go for how long it is, how scary it is and the price,” Chapdelaine said.

    Trail of Fears

    21124 Whippoorwill Lane

    Bauxite, Arkansas 72011

    (501) 454-0657

    Admission: $10

The Trail of Fears isn’t just your typical haunted house because it’s outside. It’s an actual trail in the woods. If you have ever been to Bauxite, around Whippoorwill Lane especially, you would know it is in the middle of nowhere. And that is where the Trail of Fears is, the middle of nowhere. The trail was made by local teens and their parents. Once inside, you must go through several different scenes, each one a scene from a horror movie. Sophomore Cody Jones went with a group of friends and enjoyed it.

“I loved how kids our age did it. They found a good way to make money and made everything themselves,” Jones said. “I expected it not to be as scary as it was, but the people did such a good job. It was surprisingly scary.

Trail of Fears isn’t too far away, and that’s what Jones liked the best.

“I liked having something so close because it gives students the freedom to go without parents, yet make it back by curfew,” Jones said. “I’d like to see it again next year.”

    The Gurdon Light

    Gurdon, Arkansas 71743

The Gurdon Light is a popular, local folklore. Located near Sticky Road in Gurdon, the Gurdon Light is said to be the lantern of railway foreman, William McClain, who was murdered by one of his workers at the tracks in 1931. Another version of the story is that the light is from the lantern of yet another railroad worker, who tragically fell into the path of a train and died. To get to the light, you must go to the railroad tracks. To get there, you have to travel down I-30 to Highway 53. Once you get there, take a dirt road down to a circle made over time to park cars. Once there, follow the railroad tracks down about 3/4 of mile, and then you can actually start to possibly see the Gurdon Light.
