In November after football season is over, students in John Wells’ Astronomy class will be going to the football stadium practice field, and will get to gaze at the stars through their teacher’s new telescope.
“I’ve always been interested in the stars so astronomy is a perfect fit for me.” senior Brenna Martinez said.
Recently in Wells’ class the students have been learning about all of the different constellations. They also learn about some of the different planets in the Milky Way because you can’t have Astronomy without planets.
The new telescope that Wells’ has bought can see all the way to Pluto. A 6” is the mirror’s diameter and it means that the mirror can collect four times as much light as a 3” mirror can. The number 127-mm refers to the diameter of the objective lens, which is the lens that gathers all of the light in the telescope.
The trip that the students will be going on will include both of Wells’ two Astronomy classes and will be a new experience for most students. Not everyone has ever gotten a chance to gaze at the stars, but now they will be able to.
There are students who are in love with space, the stars, and everything about Astronomy but they do not have a telescope to gaze at the stars with. But if they take Wells class then they will be able to watch the constellations in the sky.
