Nic Townsend is 15 years old and just like every other sophomore here. But there is one thing that sets him apart from his peers, his talent for music.
Townsend’s relationship with music started when he was young. At 5 years old, his parents placed him in piano lessons. Since then, he has taught himself guitar, learned to play saxophone in the band and also picked up violin along the way.
“[For me] it’s a form of self expression,” Townsend said.
His advice for any aspiring artist is to “start soon”.
“The sooner you start, the easier it is to learn,” Townsend said.
Townsend won first place in state regionals both years he entered and was a winner in nationals. He has been writing compositions for the last four years and says he really enjoys it.
“I’ve played a lot of instruments all my life,” Townsend said, “but mostly I like focusing on compositions.”
