Homecoming. Just the word sparks a flame in students’ hearts. The pounding music, the throbbing of students cheeks from smiling too much, and being surrounded by all of their friends; but that’s just the dance, Saturday Oct. 13.
The week leading up to the homecoming dance is Spirit Week, Oct. 8-12. Filled with games and dressing up as the students’ favorite characters, the whole week is the perfect time to have fun.
Starting on Monday will be Hollywood Stars Day. Tuesday is Group Day, Wednesday is Medieval Times Day, Thursday is ‘Merica Day, and finally on Friday it will be Blue ‘N White Day.
On Monday, Students could be one of the Kardashians, Zooey Deschanel, Tom Cruise, Steve Carell or even Marilyn Monroe. There will be a 4-legged sack race, one of the games that students have grown up with and mastered. The races will be held at the area outside Building 10, by the pit.
Tuesday is Group Day. The day a group of friends dress up as any one, as long as they go together. Students could be the Disney Princesses, The Power Puff Girls, The Scooby Doo Crew, The Avengers or The Beatles. Soar down the Promenade, the area between the auditorium and Building 10, in a shopping cart relay. Wear anything, be anyone, the choices are wide and filled with multiple choices.
Kings, Queens and Peasants gather round for they need to come out of their palaces and go to school. Wednesday is Medieval Day. Dress up like they did in King Arthur’s day; students could be royalty, a knight in armor, fairy tale creatures or people or even a peasant. No weapons of any sort allowed, so no swords knights. All challengers must be prepared for the test of their wits. There will be a game of catapults at the band field. Their mission, to aim at the rival teams’ mascot and strike them down.
“The Homecoming Dance theme is Once Upon A Time, so the Student Senate decided that we should incorporate that theme into one of the days of Spirit Week, that’s where we came up with idea of Medieval Day.” senior Bre McLaren said.
Students, show their American pride Thursday in honor of ‘Merica Day and wear anything that symbolizes America. When people think of football, they think of tailgating. When anyone tailgates, they cook food, usually barbeque and play games. The popular game to play at tailgating is beanbag toss, and that’s exactly what we are going to do. Head on over to the area between the cafeteria and Building 10 and have some good old tailgating fun.
Students should show their School pride on Friday by going all out in blue and white. It is Blue ‘N White Day after all. There will be a pep assembly in the gym. Wear anything and everything, as long as it’s blue and white.
Student Senate picked out the themes for each of the days of Spirit Week.
“We chose the days based on what we thought would be best for everyone,” senior Lindsey Summerlin said. “Not just girls, not just guys, not just seniors, not just freshman. We try to think of stuff that would be a little more fun than last year, that hasn’t been done, and that would be really fun to dress up as.”
