Tweets. Facebook posts. Google docs. Career counselor Amy Oury strives to inform students of college, scholarship and training opportunities. The district welcomed Oury this year as the first career counselor. Her duties include meeting with students to discuss post-graduation plans, scheduling colleges to come to the school and making resources available to students.
“I think every school needs a career counselor,” Oury said. “The Internet is a wonderful tool, but if you don’t know how to look for what you’re looking for, you’ve got somebody to go to.”
Oury utilizes social media and technology to inform the student body. She posts information regarding scholarships and colleges on the BHS Counselors facebook page and on the twitter account @BHSCounselors1. To find scholarships relative to Saline County, students may visit the Google doc (http://tinyurl.com/BryantScholarships).
“I spend a lot of time on the Internet researching colleges, scholarships, or anything [students] need to know once [they] graduate,” Oury said.
Oury recommends that students schedule appointments with her to discuss college and career possibilities.
“I cannot choose what you want to do, but I want to get you thinking,” Oury said. “Everything I do is to help [students] in some way or another.”
The best to contact Oury is via email at [email protected].
