Sophomore Jillian Stewart is a dance teacher at Andrea’s School of Dance.
“I teach the babies (preschool level) tumble, tap and ballet. The older kids (advanced level) learn jazz and lyrical dances,” Stewart said.
Her mother used to own the studio and sold it to the current owner, Andrea Clark. Stewart was offered a job as a teacher. Earning $7.50 an hour, Stewart works Monday and Thursday 4 p.m to 8 p.m and Tuesday 4 p.m to 5:30 p.m and 7 p.m to 8 p.m. She also works an occasional Saturday.
“I really enjoy my job and the people I work with, they are all my age,” Stewart said.
She said it’s hard sometimes, but she does all her homework after she gets home from work. Her favorite part about the job is their Christmas parties, and the worst part is the beginning of the year when they have to teach all the new students the warm-up routines.
“We really never have anything strange or interesting happen, but we do get complaining mothers about their children,” Stewart said.
