Boys soccer beat Cyclones, first time in over four years

by Cade Howard.

For the first time since he began coaching it in 2009, coach Jason Hay was able to lead the boy’s soccer team to a victory over Russellville. Although this is the first time the team has beat the Cyclones under Hay’s leadership, Hay feels like the opportunity has presented itself the past couple of years.

“The seniors have never beat Russellville. Two years ago, we lost a really close game that ended in penalty kicks,” Hay said “And last year, we had the lead up until the final few minutes, but they [Russellville] found a way to beat us.”

Hay believes his team’s toughness is one factor that played a major role in his team’s victory.

“We finally found a way to hang on and get win against them,” Hay said.

Russellville scored the first goal of the game, but sophomore Bryce Denker responded with a goal of his own to tie the score.

“Even though they scored the first goal, we kept our heads up and played our game,” senior Alex Rowlan said.

Junior Josh Lowery scored a goal to break the tie and gave the team a lead they would hold for the remainder of the game.

The team takes on the Conway Wampus Cats, April 6.
