After a season of determination and hard work, the Bryant Hornets secured the Class 7A High School Football State Championship this past Friday with a 27-7 victory over the Bentonville Tigers at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock. The win marked the end of Bryant’s season and gave the football team their seventh state championship title.
Bryant got control of the game early. The Hornets scored two touchdowns in the first quarter, another one in the second and added a third before halftime to take a 21-0 lead.
“They set that winning tone early, so I knew we were in for a good game when they pulled ahead in the first quarter like that,” senior Sanai Farmer said.
In the second half of the game, the Hornets scored another touchdown in the fourth quarter and finished the game with a total of 27 points. Bentonville managed a single touchdown in the third quarter.
“We knew we had control of the game, but when Bentonville scored a touchdown it caught our attention more and reminded us not to get too complacent,” Center Nichael Rucker said.
With their win against the Tigers, Bryant secured its second consecutive state championship. The victory made for an undefeated season for the Hornets, ending with a 14-0 record.
“It feels great to know that all the hard work we put in during practice paid off,” Patrick Sanders, a tight end, said.
