Saying goodbye to journalism graduates

Q: Over the past couple years, what has journalism taught you?

A: Not to take things for granted. Opportunities come and go by themselves, and it’s up to you to go out and seize them. I never knew a year ago how much journalism would play into my life, but it’s taught me everything this past year and taking that opportunity is one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

Q: What kind of opportunities has journalism opened for you?

A: I have so many favorite memories from my three years of journalism. I have gotten to take trips to beautiful places around the world; my favorite was Minneapolis. We went in November and it snowed while we were there. I used a skywalk for the very first time, and I got to go to the Mall of America. I have learned time management and responsibility; both of those will help me in the future. I’ve grown as a person and I’m so thankful for the opportunity to serve Bryant High.

Q: How has journalism helped you throughout your senior year?

A: It helped me exercise my views on certain issues on a broader scale, which I think every teen would like to do. I’ve also certainly learned the technicalities behind writing.

Q: What will you miss about being on staff?

A: Journalism has taught me that you have to fight for what you believe in or else people will run all over you. Not everyone is going to like you or want to help you, and that’s just how the way of life is.  It’s okay the sometimes your ideas are turned down.

Q: Out of all the memories you have in journalism, what is your favorite?

A: This is my third and final year on Newspaper staff. While going to Minneapolis, we were all waiting to get on the plane and we saw Ms. Sorrows’ license and she looked like a cave man. So then she got called ‘Margar-sarsar’ and it just kind of stuck. It was my first school field trip out of state, and so it was so invigorating.  I have made so many memories on staff that will stick with me forever.

Q: What will you take with you from being on staff?

A: I am going to miss the friendships I have made more than anything. Me, Jessica and Jacob are really close now. This year, I have made a lot more friends. I have been on staff for three years and I have also been a photographer the whole time. So, I have definitely made some amazing memories.

Q: If you could tell me the funniest thing that happened to you in journalism, what would it be?

A: Oh gosh, definitely a few things that happened at Dallas camp last year. I have made so many memories on staff in the one year I have been here. It’s just been a really great year.
