    Warm winter style

Coats, jackets and cardigans are all essential pieces in the chilly winter months, when warmth and style combat for priority.

“Jackets are literally the frame of any winter outfit,” freshman Spencer Shreeve said, “They’re the first thing anyone sees and can change the style of your clothes. I like bright prints and colors.”

Leather jackets are a timeless piece for the young and fierce. This season, studs, lace and fringe detailing add an extra edge to this already tough look. To soften leather jackets, try pairing them with a floral dress or skirt and heels or tall boots.

Pea coats, a hot trend last year, are carrying the reminiscent pops of summer color into winter this season, focusing on rich, jewel tones with figure-flattering pleats and structured shoulders. A deeply v-cut pea coat creates a shape that emphasizes strong shoulders and slims the waist.

“Pea coats are still really trendy,” junior Madden Sherril said, “You can find one of any style and color at any price range, they’re great for any body type too.”

White wool jackets, able to be paired with a multitude of colors and styles, are effortlessly classy and versatile. Although the risk of spots or spills is always a concern, the crisp white or feminine cream of a winter white coat defies the ever-changing stream of trends and will be a staple piece in any wardrobe for years to come.

Trench coats are no longer restrained to the early ‘60s, “Breakfast at Tiffanys”, and mid to late ‘80s, “The Breakfast Club”. The winter will feature longer-styled “trench” or “duster” coats in school hallways and runways alike. Whether styled of a glossy primary colored fabric or a toughened, aged material for a more mid-western look, longer coats with waist-cinching belts or clasps are ideal for keeping warm and maintaining a unique style.

Tribal prints, popular last spring, have returned in the form of ponchos and asymmetrical cardigans. To achieve a relaxed, casual style, try pairing printed cardigans and jackets with soft pastels. For a more sophisticated appearance, a sleek black top with matte or leather skinny jeans is a figure-flattering and put together look.
