Bryant’s varsity dance team hosted their second elementary dance clinic of the season on Jan. 18. The clinic is designed to teach young girls to enjoy dance at a young age as well as help raise money for varsity dances state competition.
Coach Ashley Beard has been coaching the varsity dance team for three years and created the clinic to encourage younger students to be interested in dance.
“We are wanting to get as many younger Bryant students interested in dance and the dance team,” Beard said.
Senior Co-Captain Rylee Rutledge has been doing dance since she was in 6th grade. Rutledge enjoys teaching the younger girls.
“My favorite part is probably teaching the kids certain things like, I had the third through fifth graders and they did not know how to do a turn so we had to show them how to do a turn,” Rutledge said. “I think it’s really cool to be able to teach them because I was thinking of doing something like that in college.”
Senior Caroline Greiner has been doing the dance clinic since sophomore year. Greiner wants to show the kids that you can have fun with your friends in your sport and to show them how to prepare for a dance.
“Watching them go to their parents after is my absolute favorite because they’re so excited that their parents saw them do a dance that they learned,” Greiner said.
Junior Hailey Johnson has been doing the dance clinic for two years. Since Johnson’s first dance clinic, she has enjoyed seeing the girls dance.
“I just love the little girls just watching them learn to have fun with there friends while dancing,” Johnson said.
Co-Captain and Senior Madi Williams has been doing the clinic since her sophomore year and has been doing dance since a young age. Williams wants to have an effect on the kids to love dance like she does.
“I love these little girls and obviously it’s a lot and I am drained at the end of the day but they are so sweet and I think one of my biggest things is trying to not like influence but impact, like I want to get them to love dance cause I love dancing, that is like my passion,” Williams said.
