School ended at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 9, and was out on Friday, Jan. 10, due to snowy weather conditions. Sunday afternoon, school officials announced school would be closed Monday, Jan. 13, due to the icy roads making it difficult for buses and student drivers.
The snow started early afternoon Thursday and carried over into late Friday morning, leaving Central Arkansas under an average of 9.5 inches of snow. The largest amount of snow produced by the entire storm was 14.3 inches in Mena, Arkansas. The winter storm also brought ice, causing power outages and dangerous travel conditions.
Winter storm Cora hit nine states in the South over the week, shutting down schools and businesses for days. This winter storm has brought the most snow to Arkansas since the snowstorm in February 2021, which was a record-breaking year.
