A wellness check ended with one officer shot and another person dead at the normally quiet Greens Hurricane Creek Apartments Dec. 23.

Two officers, Ofc. Samantha Hodgson and Sgt. David Miller, were responding to the call of a concerned family member when they arrived at Austin Chase Swindle’s apartment at 1200 Whirlwind Street  around 8:30 p.m. Swindle shot at and wounded Hodgson and reportedly refused to comply with police orders to drop the gun when Miller shot and killed him.

Hodgson was airlifted to a Little Rock hospital. She was released Dec. 27 and is expected to recover.

Miller has been placed on administrative leave as the investigation into the incident continues. The investigation of use of deadly force by a law enforcement officer, requested by the Bryant Police Department, is being conducted by the Arkansas State Police.
