Sports Buzz: April 9-15

Baseball:

The Diamond Hornets travelled to Van Buren to take on the Pointers on Tuesday. Senior Zach Johnson pitched seven shut-out innings in a pitching duel to edge out a 1-0 victory. With the win, Bryant improves to a 17-2 overall record and a 5-1 conference record. Their next game is tonight as they host Russellville in a doubleheader.

Softball:

The Lady Hornets went on a state road trip last Saturday, travelling to Rogers and Bentonville following a home doubleheader the previous day. The team could only muster up 5 hits in Rogers, cashing in no runs in a 4-0 shutout loss. Their fortunes didn’t improve against Bentonville, as five errors led to a 9-4 loss to the Lady Tigers. Bryant was able to end their skid in a home contest against Van Buren, winning 4-2. The Lady Hornets are now 2-0 in Class 7A contests and are 12-8 overall on the season.

Boys Soccer:

The Hornets opened the week with their eighth straight shutout victory against Van Buren, winning 2-0. Their streak ended on Thursday night, losing 1-0 to rival Benton Panthers. The team is now 11-3 on the season and face Russellville tonight.

Girls Soccer:

The Lady Hornets continued their dominant season with a mercy-rule 7-0 victory against Van Buren on Tuesday. The win gave Bryant their 11th shutout win of the season and moved their overall record to 12-0 and a 4-0 conference record. Their next game will be against Russellville tonight.
