Beginning with the south cafeteria, Tyson will serve several of their products starting Jan. 25. They offered boneless chicken wings, popcorn chicken, mini corn dogs and more for samples from Jan 19 to 21.

“We’re going to let them sample all that and pass out a survey,” Food Service Director Lisa Stogsdill said. “Students who try the samples can fill out the sheet, and we’ll see what they like.”

This new contract will not replace the food that is usually served, but will allow Tyson products to be served alongside it. The program will start in the third line of the south cafeteria where baked potatoes and salads are usually served.

“We’re going to start menuing those items on one day a week. Each item will be [served] on a different day of the week,” Stogsdill said. “Anyone can get it, it’s going to be like an a la carte thing where you get to pay, you can use your account to use it. Then we’re going to have different side [items] with it.”

This new program hopes to catch students attention and to start buying lunch from the school. If there is high interest in it Tyson will become a permanent part of the lunch lines.

“I think that’s pretty cool, because it would [offer] a better variety of food,” senior Janny Pavon said. “It’s something new, so it might attract attention.”

The plan is to start at the high school and serve other grades in the future.

“We’re going to start down with the south cafeteria, and if that goes well, we’re going to do the same thing up here with the ninth grade academy,” Stogsdill said. Then, try to get it in both middle schools.”
