With prom scheduled for April 26, plans for the big night have already started to form.
Knowing the first step to the perfect night, senior Dylan Masters asked his date with a new twist on a “‘promposal.’”
“I went to Target and bought a pair of knockoff white vans,” Masters said. “Haley runs track, so I got the Collegeville art teacher to decorate the shoes. They say ‘You make my heart RUN wild’ on one shoe and ‘Prom?’ on the other and I left them by her doorstep.”
Sophomore Haley Hood has been on the hunt for just the right dress.
“I was so surprised to be asked to prom as a sophomore, but after being asked I had so much to do,” Hood said. “I scrambled trying to find somebody to do my hair and makeup. I still haven’t found my dress because I’m looking for just the right one. I don’t really have a budget, but I definitely would like a dress with cutouts or an open back. I know it will be a bigger deal than homecoming so I am up for whatever plans I get.”
Although some students get to ask a fellow classmate, others have to jump at the chance for their date to travel for prom.
Senior Stormi Challoner tries to plan for prom around her college boyfriend’s travel.
“With my boyfriend, Austin, at Henderson, it makes prom a bigger responsibility,” Challoner said. “I have to handle the contract and ticket for both of us. I know I’m getting my hair and makeup done, but dinner and plans after are still being planned out. He is waiting to get a tux last minute which is the usual for him.”
Even without a date at prom, that doesn’t stop some students from the special night.
Junior Kaylee Klava is content with going to prom without a significant other on her arm.
“I’m so excited,” Klava said. “I don’t have a date and I will probably be eleventh wheeling with my group of friends, but it doesn’t bother me. I ordered my perfect dress all the way from Hong Kong. Luckily the shipping was free, but all together the dress was $299. I wanted a big, southern belle dress, and this one is yellow like the princess Belle. Prom is going to be so much fun.”
No matter whom you are going with, the night will still be special for the juniors and seniors.
“I bought my dress from a friend,” Challoner said. “It was everything I imagined and found it by complete accident. It was only $190 for a really great dress. Prom is going to be amazing.”
