Four years ago junior Tate Gilbert started his own handyman business.
He accepts different jobs from anyone he can find who needs help working on anything previous jobs included building a concrete block shop and 10 acres of fence and pressure washing houses.
The job determines his pay. He said he wanted to start doing this because it’s what he loves to do, and that is how he makes money for the things he wants. He enjoys building and helping the people who need it.
“I love hard work and building things along with just being outside. When I got older and needed diesel for my truck, you have to find a good way to make money and doing something that I love,” he said.
He is currently building a fence for one of his neighbors. He said that they wanted a field fence so they can house goats.
He said the way he got started was from a family friend who became his mentor. Gilbert worked with him until his instructor quit construction. Gilbert continued on his own.
“The man’s wife passed away from breast cancer and my mom was recently diagnosed with breast cancer and with the blessings of Jesus Christ, she has done well with her treatments,” he said. “My way of getting away and not worrying about her is through working. It gives me time to thing about everything and settle down for a few hours from all the hussle and bussel while making people happy.”
