Senior Emily Dabbs watched her dad’s chiropractic business grow over the years, seeing his love for helping people and decided that she wanted to help others as well.
“I’ve always had a passion for helping people.” Dabbs said
Dabbs will train at the Cleveland Chiropractic College in Kansas rather than go to a traditional four-year college.
“Once I thought about it, I figured it would be really cool for me to go to a chiropractic college and be able to help people once I get out of school,” Dabbs said.
Dabbs’ current job is a lifeguard/swim coach at Bishop Park and she is rewarded through helping people become better swimmers; giving her a taste of how good helping people feels.
“It’s always been really rewarding to help people out and see them improve in their swimming,” Dabbs said.
Influenced by her father’s career choice, last year was when Dabbs first considered chiropractic as the job for her.
“It was always kind of a joke of ‘oh, she gonna follow in her dad’s footsteps’ kinda thing,” Dabbs said. “ and I was like ‘yeah, I don’t know about that.
Although her family will miss her, she said they are excited for her as she makes the choice to follow after her father.
“I think he’s a bit worried too that his little girl is moving off, but I think it makes him proud,” Dabbs said.
Dabbs said she is ready to start helping others, but she is unsure about leaving her family and friends behind and moving to Kansas.
“I live like in a five block radius of like all my family and we always have like Sunday afternoons together, we always go to grandma’s for dinner, ” Dabbs said. “ I’m definitely gonna miss all that a lot.”
