Verizon Area will be swarmed with a sea of royal blue cap and gowns May 30. Even though the class of 2013 will be united together, personality will shine underneath the graduation uniform. Finding the perfect shoes to peak out for walking across the stage is key and revealing what’s underneath is even more exciting.
Finding a dress that signifies both personality and the transition into adulthood can be difficult. Different colors can portray different things in an outfit, so finding the right color is important.
Black dresses could paint a picture of elegance and sophistication. White shows simplicity and peace, lavender is femininity and grace and blue and turquoise shows harmony and conservatism. Yellow signifies joy and happiness, beige and ivory symbolize pleasantness and simplicity and red is excitement and energy.
Wearing the right shoes can make a statement just as big as a dress.
“They are the only things you can see under the blueberry robes so it’s worth taking some time to find a good pair of shoes. Kind of important,” senior Liz Ortiz said. “For me, they are Converse.”
Tall and skinny stilettos give the impression of fearlessness. Balancing of sky-high heels that are about as thin as a finger is definitely fearless.
Wedges are for smart and stylish girls. Wedges are the best of both worlds. They give the femininity and style of high heels but also comfort.
Pumps show a traditional and professional side. Pumps aren’t flashy like stilettos but they still give the elegant look.
“Since I’m already short, I always have to wear tall heels,” senior Lauren Stiles said. “I bought the shoes to match my dress, but luckily they match the gown too.”
To portray a conservative and practical side, go with kitten heels. Kitten heels are the little sisters of heels. They aren’t very tall but have just enough high to elevate with balance.
