At only 14-years-old, freshman Katelyn Dandurand has already decided what she wants to do after graduating high school. She wants to become a veterinarian and eventually open her own clinic.
She got the idea last year when her mother volunteered at an animal shelter every weekend. She went along to play with the new puppies. She has always wanted to help animals, but when she went to the shelter, she realized that she wanted to look at it as a possible career.
“It just clicked in my head that I just wanted to help animals,” Dandurand said.
She has it all planned out, from graduating high school to opening her own clinic. She wants to go to a college close to home. Then she plans on going to LSU. Dandurand wants to start off at an animal clinic before opening her own clinic.
“I want to make sure I finish getting all the education I can,” she said.
Her favorite animals are dogs and she enjoys playing with her own dog, Jax. Dandurand also has a cat, but she doesn’t really like cats. In spite of that though, she would enjoy helping any animal in need.
“I really hope I make a good vet,” Dandurand said.
