With marching season ended, indoor percussion is heating up – and adding a side of meatballs.
After last year’s horror-themed show titled “Twisted,” they turned to something new – Spaghetti.
“Our show this year is titled On Top Of Spaghetti,” director Jay Chipman said. “It’s a zany take on the opening of an Italian restaurant and the presentation of dinner to the spectators.”
Indoor percussion performed at Family and Friends Night on Feb. 14 and at Arkansas Marching Arts Association’s (AMAA) second indoor percussion and winterguard competition on Feb. 15.
“Everything’s running really smoothly and we have already made a lot of progress with our visuals and music,” junior Rylee Gaines said.
AMAA’s second indoor percussion and winterguard competition was hosted by Chipman in Bryant Junior High School’s main gym on Saturday Feb. 15. They scored a total of 77.750, landing them in first place in Percussion Scholastic A.

“It’s really fun and somewhat silly,” sophomore Jackson Wolff said. “I think this show will do great at both WGI events this year.”
Along with the music, the directors crafted props to help convey the theme.
“Our floor is the Italian flag with a plate of spaghetti in the middle,” Chipman said. “Very, very Italian!”
Their next show is on March 1 in Hot Springs.
“It’s bound to be a hoot,” Chipman said. “Plus, how can you go wrong with spaghetti?”
