Photography is a diverse form of expression and documentation used in newspapers, internet posts and art galleries. Pictures can showcase the photographer’s emotions or provide visuals to a story. Senior Grady Morriss has recently picked up this hobby, specifically using film for his photography.
Morriss worked with a digital camera for around a year before he saw some photos online and decided to buy his film camera.
“I started taking photos of my friends and my sport,” Morriss said. “I was on Pinterest or something, and I found these cool old-looking photos, so I bought a cheap camera and I got a couple of [the photos] developed and I thought they looked really cool.”
Beyond simply taking pictures, you have to get your photos developed, and on-site developers can be difficult to locate.
“There’s this place in Little Rock called Bedford,” Morriss said. “It usually takes about a week, so I drop off the roll of film, pay them and give them a USB drive so they can scan [the photos] and I can get them digitally.”
Morriss’ photos range from sports to nature photography, which he takes while hiking with his girlfriend, junior Ellie Russell.
“I really enjoy his art, and watching him capture it,” Russell said. “You can always see his face light up when he takes pictures. He enjoys film. It’s a beautiful process of developing it, and it isn’t easy getting every feature perfect.”
