Junior Sydney Cowell walked into Letta’s Flowers in November and was hired on the spot. She never filled out an application. Sweeping floors, vacuuming, dusting, working the register and now learning how to do flower arrangements and sometimes does deliveries, she does it all.
“They are really flexible with my schedule. If I have something to do, I just tell them and they are very understanding,” Cowell said.
Cowell said the hardest thing about her job is working on the arrangements. She’s only worked with small vases and she had to work with a large vase the other day. Her co-workers make her job fun; she said they are sweet and treat her like “the grandbaby.”
“I am really going to miss them when I have to go to college,” Cowell said.
She works 3:45p.m. to around 5 on week days and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on weekends. She doesn’t work on Wednesdays and Sundays because of church. She is paid $8 an hour.
Cowell said she really loves her job and the people.
“I’m the youngest that works there; everyone makes jokes about things I’m too young to get and I make jokes about new things that they don’t understand,” Cowell said.
