All juniors are required to take the free ACT (no writing) exam on April 2 from 8:15 a.m. to noon. Registration isn’t required, but on Monday, April 1 during first block, students will fill out the interest inventory usually completed online. Students must take the interest inventory to take the test.
“If the student has unavoidable reason they cannot be here April 1, they must talk to me ahead of time to see if other arrangements can be made,” test coordinator Evelyn Butler said, “ If they do not talk to me ahead of time and are absent April 1, they will not be able to test April 2.”
Students will still get the option to send their scores to three colleges of their choice, free even though the school is administering the exam and students will need to pick the colleges when they fill out the interest inventory.
The majority of juniors will take the ACT in the same classrooms they took the literacy exam in and unlike the ACTAAP, where snacks were provided to the students, this time during the breaks, snacks will not be given.
“A few students who were in small groups will need to check the website or their teacher because their rooms have changed,” Butler said.
Students need to bring #2 pencils and a calculator if they want one for the math part of the test. The ACT website has a listing of prohibited calculators students should check to ensure the use of their chosen calculator.
“Students may check out one from the math teachers if they don’t have one of their own,” Butler said. “But no prep is needed other than what they [students] may have done on their own or in their classes.”
