What’s it like whenever that alarm goes off in the morning?
“It’s hard waking up at 4:30 because me and some of the seniors go up there early to hit, and it feels like you’re just then getting to sleep,” Wilson said. “At the same time I think about how I’ve got to do it for my teammates and my school, and that’s what makes me thank God for getting up in the mornings.”
What are the practices like in the morning?
“They are really intense. He [Coach Kirk Bock] doesn’t care if it’s 5:30 in the morning or 5:30 in the evening. He doesn’t care if you are in the ninth grade or twelfth grade. He wants everything done perfectly so we can win a national championship.”
What’s the school day like after waking up that early?
“It depends on how much sleep I get the night before, I usually try to get to bed around 9, but if I don’t, the school day usually drags along.”
What is the difference between morning and afternoon practices?
“Morning practices are more lifting. In the afternoon we do a full practice. We stretch, do a round of batting practice and then do defensive drills. After that the ninth graders get there, we do it all again.”
How do these practices help the team on the field?
“At times the practices are really hard, but you have to think it will pay off. Last year before at the state tournament we were sitting in a hotel right before the championship game, about to leave and we started to think about all the long and hard practices that helped us get there.”
