As a new member of the school board, Michael Daly has had many transitions between the school district and the work place.
Prior to being elected to the school board Daly taught AP Literature and Creative Writing for the high school for ten years and now works at Southwest Power Pool as an instructional designer.
“It is an important part of leadership for the district to have a voice to understand what it is like to be a teacher and a member,” Daly said.
The first school board meeting was held on Oct. 11 in the professional development center in Building 18.
“The first meeting was very informative.” Daly said, “A variety of issues were covered, such as construction, the monthly financial statement and the ABC grant.”
The school board ensures that the district follows state and federal guidelines accordingly. The board also discusses more specific issues such as student disciplinary.
“The school board’s responsibility is to set the vision and mission for the school district as well as set policy,” Daly said.
Michael Ferguson is new to the school board as well.
“The most difficult part of being a new school board member is getting up to speed on all of the issues currently facing the district,” Daly said, “really just making sure that I am informed to be extent as possible, so that I can adequately vote on issues.”
