While the rest of the powder puff teams pulled together money to get personalized jerseys, seniors Daniel Richards and Austin Powell, coaches of Smack That Pass, took a different and much cheaper approach. The two got AG H20, owned by Powell’s grandfather, and Richard’s Honda and Yamaha, owned by Richard’s dad, to sponsor their team.
The team wanted bright flashy shirts that looked nice, but Powell and Richards knew the price would be more than expected. But with each sponsor paying half of the total, they made it happen.
“We were going to have the logos of each company put on the shirts but it was too expensive,” Richards said.
Before the sponsor, the team planned on paying for shirts. After pricing the shirts they wanted, $17 a shirt was too costly. Powell said if they hadn’t had the sponsor, they probably wouldn’t have had the nice shirts they wanted.
Team player Morgan Hawkins said she would have been fine with cheaper shirts, but she’s glad they had a sponsor to pay for the nice shirts.
“Having our team sponsored has brought us together. No one had to worry about the cost,” Powell said.
