Bryant Indoor Percussion prepares for new year of rehearsals

December 20, 2019

After ending the last indoor marching percussion season as second place champions in the Missouri circuit, band director Jay Chipman directs the 2019-2020 Bryant Indoor Percussion ensemble on their last rehearsal before Winter Break begins.

After the break, the ensemble will begin learning drill and putting the show together on a mat, weighing 320 pounds.

This year’s theme is “Innovation of the 80s.” The show features advances like the synthesizer and VHS, while lightly incorporating famous songs from the 80s.

The ensemble performed “Across the Universe” for their inaugural season, reusing uniforms from the fall marching season to save money for their first season. After having a smaller ensemble, participation has increased greatly this year, and students are ready for a show that is truly exclusive to percussion.

Chipman has also started an Arkansas Indoor Percussion circuit. The competitive season will begin in April and continue throughout March.
