Trump Elected 45th President
November 9, 2016
After 17 months on the campaign trail, businessman Donald Trump has been elected the 45th president of the United States. The race was close: Trump finished with 279 electoral votes and 47.5 percent of the popular vote, while Clinton finished with 218 electoral votes and 47.6 percent of the popular vote, as stated by the New York Times. According to bankrate.com, Trump will be one of eight businessmen to serve in office. He began as a real estate developer and went on to create the show “The Apprentice.”
Momentum for Trump’s campaign grew partly because of his strict policy on immigration and lack of political correctness. As reported by the Washington Post, Trump “says things that people have been afraid to say.”
Trump will be inaugurated Jan. 20, 2017.
