Student Senate is hosting a fundraiser for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) called “Pennies for Patients.” First period teachers are collecting change from April 4 through April 15, and the two classes who raise the most money will receive a breakfast party with donuts, muffins and cinnamon rolls.

Money donated to the LLS is used for research to help find cures for leukemia and lymphoma patients and education for the patients, survivors, and healthcare professionals.

Researchers and doctors devote their careers to LSS in hopes of finding a cure to blood cancers.

“LLS is doing more than any cancer nonprofit to advance cutting-edge research and cures,” Louis J. DeGennaro, Ph.D., LLS President and CEO said.

Student Senate encourages all students to donate any change to LLS.

“Help us raise awareness and funds for a very worthy organization that works to find a cure for blood cancers in our society,” Student Senate sponsor Amber Leaton said.

The LLS contacted Student Senate asking them to do the penny drive to help raise money.

“We felt like it was a good cause, so we went ahead and organized the drive,” Student Senate President Jake Price said.
