Inside Scoop about Senior Week
March 17, 2016
Rumors have spread from student to student about whether or not senior week is still going to happen. Different theories have been formulated about how senior week will be organized, and seniors are becoming anxious waiting to hear about the final plans for the special week.
Senior Tyler Cyz, Senior Class President, has been working along with the other class officers to make senior week the best one the school has held. The changes in schedule and the millage not passing have made planning for senior week more difficult than usual.
“As officers, we are trying to stand strong,” Cyz said. “We are trying to give our class what they want.”
The class of 2016 will still have senior week, but there will be changes to the usual lineup of events. Senior week will start Mon., April 25 and end Sat., April 30. The bigger games and dance competition will occur on Saturday. Smaller games will be held during the school week.
“[The officers] are wanting to do little games, such as a scavenger hunt, maybe,” Cyz said.
During the week, seniors will be separated into different teams. Students can sign up individually or with a partner. The students who signed up will be divided into teams by the class officers April 8.
“All of the officers will sit in a room, and we will look over the pages where people signed up,” Cyz said. “Then we will go through the names and pick [our teams].”
Even though some traditions have changed, there will still be a theme for every day of senior week.
“We dress up all week,” Cyz said. “That is definite.”
Senior week was originally planned to be “senior day,” but the class officers made sure to keep the tradition going of having events every day.
“We weren’t going to have that,” Cyz said.
Cyz hopes the class of 2016 will have the best senior week that has happened so far. He is confident students will have a good time and the competitions will be intense.
“This senior class is extremely special, because we have gotten so much taken away from us,” Cyz said. “So much has been ripped from us.”
Cyz says that interim principal Rachel Rasburry has done everything she can to help the class officers create a fun senior week.
“We are thankful we have Ms. Rasburry,” Cyz said. “She is willing to work with us on anything.”
Cyz wants to remind seniors that senior week will definitely happen, even if some traditions have changed.
“We might not get what we want,” Cyz said. “We are trying to do what is best for the senior class.”
