Sports Buzz: January 11-18

Boys Basketball:
The Hornets opened 7A Conference play with a 63-31 victory over the Little Rock Catholic Rockets last Tuesday night. Senior Kevin Hunt lead the Hornets in scoring by racking up 33 points, 16 coming from the second quarter. The Hornets faced Van Buren at home Friday night and were able to edge out a 45-44 victory.
Girls Basketball:
The Lady Hornets overcame a 10-point deficit in the second half of their conference bout against Mount St. Mary’s Academy to win 50-45. Emily Ridgell was the Lady Hornets’ highest scorer with 17 points. On Friday night, the Lady Hornets lost their non-conference contest against Van Buren 57-29.
Girls Swimming:
The Lady Hornets won in a swim meet at Bishop Park last Thursday night. The team finished first in four events, including the 200-yard Medley Relay, 200-yard Freestyle Relay, 400-yard Freestyle Relay, and the 100-yard Backstroke event.
Boys Swimming:
The Hornets finished second out of fifteen teams in their meet at Bishop Park last Thursday. The team won the 400-yard Freestyle Relay and the 500-yard Freestyle.
Wrestling:
The Hornets finished third at the McClellan Duals Tournament last Monday, winning four of the five matches the team participated in.
