Student Senate sponsors Adopt-A-Child
December 12, 2019
Every year, Student Senate sponsors Adopt-a-Child, a program through the Salvation Army that allows families in the district to request gifts for their children if their family is struggling financially.
At the high school, Student Senate adopts 50 gifts every year so that different clubs can sponsor students and buy gifts for them for the Salvation Army to deliver.
“It’s one of our favorite projects every year, because we just think it’s worthwhile,” sponsor Amber Leaton said. “It’s awesome that these kids come from our school district and we’re able to buy them gifts and give them a better Christmas.”
Leaton has co-sponsored the club for eight years and has sponsored the Adopt-a-Child program for all eight years. She is not sure how long the program has run at Bryant, but she knows it has been a long time.
“I like that it involves the whole school, because we have 30 to 40 different clubs and classes and teachers that sponsor a kid,” Leaton said. “They get to go shopping, and they get to feel like they are making someone’s Christmas better.”
