After ending during the middle of the school year last year, National Honors Society is back. This year’s senior officers are president Helen Woodham, vice president Dahlia Bray, secretary Hollan Pfautz and treasurer Gabby Bonvillain. The new sponsors this year are Jill Settle and Brixey Hendrix.

President Helen Woodham is looking to involve the members in more activities this year.

“Last year, NHS did not take off like members were expecting, so we did not get to participate as much,” Woodham said. “This year, we are hoping to get [everyone] more involved.”

National Honors Society is known for its volunteer work and community service.

“Members of the club get points based on the number of hours they volunteered throughout the year,” Woodham said. “There is a [2000] point goal members try to reach by the end of their senior year, and they get a cord at graduation.”

Secretary Hollan Pfautz is ready for a change in National Honors Society this year.

“The officers and I will definitely [be] revamping NHS to the best of our abilities,” Pfautz said.

The sponsors have begun handing out applications to eligible new members. Forms are due October 11. The induction ceremony will be in early November, and there will be a service event in the spring.

“This will be a special [induction] ceremony, as it will be the last NHS ceremony held in Love Auditorium before it is demolished this spring,” Settle said.
