The Shine of a Penny

Money shouts glamour. It is the magic wand, which makes all wishes come to life.
We have become infatuated with the dollar. We, as a society, are obsessed with wealth.
Money is glorified. It allows the opportunity to enjoy the more luxurious side of life, but it also allows for manipulation through bribery. It is a symbol of power.
The more money someone has, the more they can do, and the more they have control over.
I understand that money is necessary to afford the basic needs of life, but I have issues with money being an escape from consequences. If someone has the right amount of money, they are able to buy their way out of their deserved consequence. People are afraid to be on the bad side of someone who is wealthy.
Money allows certain people to have more benefits than others. It is not fair that people who have more money have the ability to get away guilt-free in the justice system while someone who is too poor to afford a decent lawyer can’t. The constitution gives everyone the right to have a fair trial before proven guilty, but how fair is it when someone has a lawyer who can devote more time and care to their client than a lawyer assigned to someone by the government? They should have to face the same punishment, no matter their social class or access to wealth.
Wealth should not be something that earns someone the right to be glorified. We aspire to be the latest celebrity in the spotlight, yet few are as concerned with people risking their lives overseas. There should be a larger focus on people who are actively doing good things for society than people who are starting a new trend.
We are too focused on making as much money as we can. Some only go into a profession because of how much money they will receive, not because it is something they are passionate about.
Our focus on becoming wealthy is causing us to lose focus on our goals, and sometimes, our morals. We allow money to manipulate who we are.
Money has become the driving force in our decisions and the way we live. We are so busy worrying about ourselves and our prosperity that we lose touch with the people and life happening all around us. We need to focus on the experiences in life and things that money cannot buy.
