For junior Brittany Jackson, art is everything. From an early age Jackson possessed an interest in art, surrounded by art supplies her entire life. Brittany is in both AP studio art and painting.

Jackson uses water-soluble oil pastels for the majority of her work, enjoying the fluidity of the medium. A piece of hers that she is most proud of is an untitled still life of cups, which won an honorable mention at AYAA.

Jackson said she looks to geometric shapes and designs for much of her inspiration for her work. She hopes to pursue a career that will allow her to utilize her artistic ability.

“I’d love to be a book illustrator, maybe for a children’s book,” she said.

Although her family is unsupportive of her artistic ambition, she has found other sources of support and encouragement.

“My classmates and teachers are probably the people that encourage me most of all,” she said.
